For 3D printing, everyone may have a deeper impression of 3D photography. Stand in front of the scanner, perform a full-body scan, and then print a three-dimensional statue. That's all, it doesn't seem to make much use. actually not. Today, 3D printing technology has been widely used. For example, in the medical field, 3D printing technology can already make human bone tissue and relieve the pain for more and more patients. In the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi'an, Shaanxi, CCTV Finance "economic half-hour" reporter saw a lucky girl.

Relying on 3d printing artificial organs is no longer a dream

In the Stomatological Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University of Xi'an, the reporter saw Xiaojing from Yan'an. Xiaojing is in his 20s and looks sunny and healthy. But she told us that there is a 3D printed metal guide on her mandible. This time, she had to remove the metal guide and implant the teeth on the mandible. In order to confirm the situation of the last operation, she took a CT film and asked the doctor for an inquiry.

Xiaojing, a patient at the Fourth Military Medical University Stomatological Hospital: My mom told me if it was short. I said that I didn't feel any pain.

Doctor: This is very good, the mandible. This board connects the entire mandible together. The sides are very good.

In 2007, 19-year-old Xiaojing unfortunately suffered a car accident. The car accident almost took her life. After more than 30 days of coma in the hospital bed, Xiaojing miraculously woke up. However, this car accident caused her to lose a piece of the jaw on the left. It was difficult to eat and talk because of the defect of a bone.

Xiaojing: It means that there is no bone in this piece. It is impossible to eat with food. It may be like eating something that cannot be bitten. I still feel a little bit of talking, saying that if you talk, you may have a face that is sometimes recessed.

If the inconvenience of life can be tolerated, then for a girl who loves beauty, the change of appearance is not so acceptable. After the car accident, Ai Mei's small scene is not willing to look in the mirror, does not like to take pictures, and is even more willing to go out and talk to people. She often scatters her long hair and intentionally blocks the place where her left face collapses.

Xiaojing: I used to feel good when I laughed. Finally, you think, light is not here, but here, there are a lot of teeth here. In the end, these are dentures, because there are no bones here. There is no way to make this tooth, not to laugh.

After the car accident, there was no laughter in Xiaojing’s life. Just when she lost almost confidence in her life, in 2009, a local doctor in Yan'an told her that the Stomatological Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi'an could help her recover her health, which made the small scene in pain see hope. She came to Xi'an and found Professor Liu Yanpu, a doctor at the Fourth Military Medical University Stomatological Hospital.

Liu Yanpu, Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery, Stomatological Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University: She was in a car accident in 2010. She was not treated in time after the accident, which caused her face to be asymmetrical. We can see it from the front and from the side. We watched the place sink down, then let us look up again, her face is obviously asymmetrical, and this side is hollow.

Liu Yanpu told CCTV's "Economic Half-hour" reporter that in the past, the bone surgery for Xiaojing relied entirely on the surgeon's clinical experience. Sometimes, the bones are often asymmetrical after being fitted, or they are not suitable for a second operation. However, when Xiaojing came to seek medical treatment, the hospital already had 3D printing technology. They decided to use 3D technology to perform bone grafting surgery for Xiaojing.

Liu Yanpu: 3D printing technology is the use of computer technology to reconstruct an image of an object or patient, and then input it into the computer, so that you can print out the various positioning devices, fixtures, and even the various tools we need in our surgery. We can do some template for bone grafting.

Professor Liu Yanpu introduced that in Xiaojing's bone graft surgery, the skull model, the positioning guide, and the fixed titanium metal titanium plate were all made by 3D printer.

Liu Yanpu: The bones that are missing are so big. At this time, we printed it in 3D. Your fake bone piece took a bone on her body and repaired the bone very tightly. So it is better than us. Regular surgery is much more accurate.

Professor Liu Yanpu has more than 30 years of clinical experience and has done a lot of surgery before becoming a qualified surgeon. But 3D printing technology is changing Professor Liu Yanpu's surgical approach.

Liu Yanpu: Our old saying is called a long carpenter, a short blacksmith. I use the traditional method. I will take one more piece, then grind it and then fix it. (3d printing) How much you lack, how much I will make up, for the patient, the damage is small, the operation time is also short, simplifying the operation. We can see that the sides of her face are symmetrical, the shape of the mandible is also restored, and it is restored from the side.

After the accident, because of the damage of the appearance, Xiaojing even had the idea of being suicidal. But after doing bone graft surgery, she began to slowly look in the mirror, combed her long hair again, and began to send photos to her friends after taking photos with her mobile phone. The sunshine of life once again warmed her life.

Xiaojing: It may start slowly. I may feel that my face is also very good in all aspects, because my face is definitely a little swollen when I was discharged from the hospital, but it slowly disappeared when I went back, so I slowly slowly The land began to love the mirror.

Now Xiaojing is ready to perform dental implant surgery on the mandible. Professor Liu Yanpu has communicated with the staff responsible for digitization and 3D printing technology in the hospital, and uploaded relevant data of Xiaojing. The dental implant surgery of Xiaojing was designed in advance, and the surgical guide for implants was printed.

Liu Yanpu: This is the guide that we produced using 3D printing technology to make implants. That is to say, after we have given the position and space, we leave this eye, which is the position of our future implants. Then, in the future, we will print the implant along this set position, and its position can fully meet the design requirements.

In fact, since 2001, Liu Yanpu has tried to use 3D printing technology in some operations, which was called rapid prototyping technology. In this regard, Professor Li Dichen from Xi'an Jiaotong University gave him a lot of support and cooperation. Li Dichen is a Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars at the School of Mechanical Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University. He is also a deputy director of the Human Joint and Internal Plants Committee of the Tribological Branch of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering. He has been researching 3D printing technology very early.

Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Fourth Military Medical University work together to promote the application of 3D printing technology

At Xi'an Jiaotong University, Professor Li Dichen came to the laboratory with a CCTV financial "economic half-hour" reporter. Xiaojing's mandible 3D printing technology comes from here. The reporter saw that the laboratory was filled with a variety of 3D printing equipment and products. Li Dichen and his team began researching 3D printing technology and equipment in 1999.

Professor Li Dichen from Xi'an Jiaotong University told reporters that initially they only studied 3D printing equipment, but after successful development, they did not find a suitable use. At the same time, the Fourth Military Medical University is looking around for digital means of surgical design. The mutual point of convergence makes the two sides hit it off. In this way, 3D printing technology began to be applied to the operation of personalized prostheses and positioning guides.

Li Dichen, a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University: This has used more than 100 cases on patients, so this is a defect of a patient's skull, then we will repair him based on his CT data. All of this gives patients a new treatment plan that makes our 3D printing technology a real application in the real world.

In Li Dichen's view, printing bones and positioning guides used in surgery are only the primary products of 3D printing. In the future, printing human tissues and organs will also be possible. At present, Professor Li Dichen's research direction is to use 3D printing and biomedical technology to achieve 3D printing of human tissues and organs. They are currently focusing on two hot spots, one is how to make artificially active cartilage and bone tissue, and the other is liver tissue.

Li Dichen: This is the kind of bracket we printed out of cartilage and bone. It was implanted in the joint. We carried out this animal experiment and we can see that our regenerated cartilage and natural cartilage are very close, actually Its function has become closer and closer in mechanical properties.

In the 3D printing technology of liver tissue, Li Dichen and his research team have been able to produce liver tissue for animal experiments using their own bio 3D printing equipment.

Li Dichen: This is the biological 3D printing device we developed ourselves. This is the culture of the cells we are doing here. You can see this green cell, then this red is our support and then it is made into animals. In the experiment, we put the stent into the liver of the rat and then cultured it. We have probably lived for 20 days.

Liver transplantation is currently in high demand in China, and many patients are struggling to find a suitable liver. In the future, artificial liver will be possible through 3D printing technology. According to the reporter's understanding, relying on the technology of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University and other research institutes, Shaanxi Province established the 3D printing industry technology innovation alliance at the beginning of this year. The 3D printing company founded by Sun Yingjun is one of the founding members of this alliance.

Sun Yingjun began to change the direction of the company

Through the 3D technology alliance platform, Sun Yingjun found that in the hospitals that carry out 3D printing technology, companies such as them are urgently needed to provide patients with 3D printed bone models, providing more accurate pathological diagnosis and surgical design. What Sun Yingjun lacks is such a customer.

Sun Yingjun: Now we have given more than 200 bone models, and it is here, more than 200 cases have been successfully applied, whether it is the guide, or a reference model of the general bone just mentioned, we are all Have.

In addition to making bone models for hospital patients, Sun Yingjun's company also prints parts and molds for some communications companies, and his company is now profitable.

Sun Yingjun: It is basically balanced from September. The next step is that the whole process can be continuous, everyone will rise, and profits will rise. This is a process.

The relevant person in charge of the Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province said that the establishment of the 3D printing industry technology innovation alliance is to compensate for various defects between the industrial innovation chain, the industrial chain and the service chain. Its purpose is to coordinate 3D printing technology and industry-related resources. Improve the research, development, manufacturing and service levels in the field of 3D printing technology to promote the promotion and application of 3D printing technology standards. Shaanxi Province has strong scientific research and industrialization strength in the domestic 3D printing field, and has formed a relatively complete innovation chain, industrial chain and service chain. According to the data, as of the beginning of 2013, there were 668 patents related to 3D printing equipment, materials and applications in China, and 369 of them in Shaanxi, ranking first in the country.
