Chen Shihong, an attending physician at the ENT department of the Zhongxing District of Taipei City, said that if an ear accidentally drops foreign objects, do not try to remove it with a cotton swab, ear stick, or finger. This action will only push foreign objects even further.

Chen Shihong said that if there are bugs running into their ears, they can use the light method and use a flashlight to illuminate the ear with insects running in. The insects are optically active and will climb out of the light.

If the flashlight still does not see insects after more than 10 minutes, oil can be dripped into the ear canal in order to drown the insects and prevent the insects from biting the ear canal and damaging the eardrum. However, the oil used must be at room temperature, and excessive cooling or overheating can cause dizziness.

In addition, when swimming or shampooing, if the ear gets into the water, Chen Shihong said that he can jump on his own and use gravity to let the water flow out.

Chen Shihong stressed that the best way for foreign bodies to enter the ear is to go to the medical center to receive the diagnosis and treatment of the doctor. According to past experience, damage to the eardrum caused by foreign bodies is due to improper treatment by the patient and the public is urged not to regret it in order to save time.
