Release date: 2016-12-09 Blood poisoning can be life-threatening if it is severe, and it can be cured if it is found early. Doctors usually recommend taking antibiotics from patients to suppress the growth of harmful bacteria in the blood . However, excessive use of these drugs can lead to antibiotic resistance. With this in mind, an international team of scientists has recently developed another method of blood purification – using magnets to “suck†bacteria . The researchers of the project are from Harvard University, the Swiss EMPA Institute and the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Some scientists first add antibodies to iron particles and use them to detect harmful bacteria. Subsequently, they introduced a solution containing these particles into the blood containing these bacteria, and the end result was that the microorganisms adhered to the particles. When hemodialysis is performed with a dialysis machine, the magnet can "suck" the particulate matter containing the bacteria , making the blood "clean". However, the limitation of this approach is that antibodies can only be combined with a single type of bacteria at a time - the type will depend on the type of antibody used. This also means that in the clinic, doctors will first need to take the time to determine the type of bacteria in the patient's blood, and then select the appropriate antibody. Now the Harvard research team led by Dr. Gerald Pier has created an antibody that binds almost all types of bacteria in blood poisoning . They also achieved success in laboratory tests, which they believe are "very promising." Source: cnBeta.COM
