Medtronic teamed up with Dutch obesity clinic NOK to fight morbid obesity

Medtronic and the Dutch obesity clinic NOK (Nederlandse Obesitas Kliniek) recently announced that Medtronic has signed an agreement to form a strategic alliance with NOK to increase NOK's capabilities by providing a majority stake in NOK, providing value-oriented integrated healthcare. The private NOK has established an innovative integrated care model for morbidly obese patients. A strategic alliance with Medtronic will help NOK expand its chain of clinics to more countries, thereby better benefiting more patients who require comprehensive treatment of morbid obesity.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this summer, subject to approval by the relevant authorities.

NOK is one of the largest independent Dutch clinics in the Netherlands specializing in the treatment of morbid obesity (BMI >40, or BMI >35 with one or more complications). Over the past 23 years, NOK has formed a multidisciplinary team of experts, including general practitioners, physicians, psychologists, surgeons, dieticians and physiotherapists, to provide safe and effective treatment for morbidly obese patients with the aim of maximizing patient care. Long-term health benefits. The entire treatment regimen includes extensive screening, pre-treatment, weight loss surgery, post-operative care, and long-term follow-up. In addition, this integrated care program focuses on patient behavioral changes, which is an important factor in the treatment of morbid obesity. The strategic alliance, clinical decision-making and patient data privacy are still solely the responsibility of NOK medical staff, which does not have any impact on the medical autonomy and clinical independence of the NOK clinic.

Under the agreement, Medtronic will acquire a majority stake in NOK. Other terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. In the Medtronic earnings report, NOK's revenue will be included in the innovative surgical business unit of the Minimally Invasive Therapy Business Group.

This is the first time that Medtronic has been involved in an integrated morbid obesity care model. This is in line with the company's new value-oriented healthcare model, through which business infrastructure, technology, expertise and management support will help achieve better patient care.
