Chinese scientists construct "smart nano drug-loading" to visualize cancer treatment

Zheng Mingbin, Ph.D., of the School of Pharmacy of Guangdong Medical College, and Cai Lintao, of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have recently made new breakthroughs in the intelligent treatment of cancer with intelligent nano drug delivery.

According to Zheng Mingbin, the team built a temperature-sensitive phosphodrug-loaded chemotherapy drug, doxorubicin, and a photosensitizer, turnip green, to construct a temperature-sensitive nano drug-loaded drug with precise combination of tumor visualization. Intelligent nano-drug is a temperature-sensitive "smart material", which contains chemotherapeutic drugs and photosensitizing agents. Under the near-infrared laser light penetrating the skin, the photosensitizer absorbs light energy into heat energy, which produces heat toxicity that kills cancer cells. At the same time, the nano-system is opened, and the chemotherapeutic drugs are quickly released, and the tumor is treated by the toxicity and thermal toxicity of the chemotherapy drugs.

"Under conventional treatment, drugs for treating cancer often have toxic side effects. Drugs enter the body, most of which are metabolized by the liver and kidneys, and very small amounts of drugs enter the tumor." Zheng Mingbin said that intelligent nano drug delivery can be fixed and quantified at the location of the tumor. Timing effectively controls the release concentration of chemotherapeutic drugs and the local temperature of the tumor, and exerts the optimal efficiency of the drug to avoid toxic and side damage of the drug in other organs.

“Intelligent nano-loading drugs make cancer treatment more visible and more accurate.” Zheng Mingbin said that visualized treatment detects the distribution and metabolism of nanomedicine by means of fluorescence, magnetic resonance, CT and other imaging methods. The release of the tumor site, the release rate and the dose can be effectively controlled, so that people clearly know "where the drug goes", which will more effectively and accurately hit the lesion and reduce the side effects of the treatment.

"Cancer treatments have a lot of side effects on the human body, often because the drugs can not accurately reach the tumor site. The system can visually and monitorably treat cancer lesions, accurately hit the affected parts, and improve the therapeutic effect.
